In 4.09 Something Blue, a mislaid spell by Willow magics Buffy and Spike into getting engaged. After the spell had been reversed, Spike revealed to Buffy’s friends that the Slayer wanted ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ played for their first dance. The overly sentimental song was sung by Bette Midler on the soundtrack to the 1988 film Beaches.
In the Angel episode 3.03 That Old Gang Of Mine, Gio sings ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ in Caritas.

I always considered this episode, in which Spike and Buffy are in love (thanks to magic), to be a foreshadowing of the situations and events in season six… where the two *do* have a relationship of sorts.

Oh this is definately a foreshadowing of their future relationship!
At the start of the episode, Buffy is talking about how much she likes Riley, but that there’s “something missing”. She says: “Riley seems so solid…but…part of me believes that real love and passion have to go hand in hand with pain and fighting.” And we all know that one season on, Spike will be doing his best to convince Buffy he is a much better match for her than Riley. We also know that this is true :-)
Back to the point, all through the episode, there’s sexual tension between Buffy and Spike, they’re flirting long before Willow puts a spell on them, like Buffy teasing Spike by stroking her own neck. Very suggestive.
Then the language that’s used right before Willow casts her spell.
Xander says: “It’s not like she could just let Spike go.” and “She needs Spike.”
Buffy says to Spike: “Oh make a move… I’m dying for a good slay.”
Yes folks, that says slay, with an ’s’.

Wow, you do have a point ! I had notice the teasing (although I thought they sounded more like siblings than lovers) but you’re right about Xander’s comment. As for “slay”… By the end of season 4, Buffy clearly seems to have adopted Faith’s attitude towards slaying.

You mean all the sweating-nightly, side-by-side action?! ;-)
Agreed!
