Both Charisma Carpentar (Cordelia) and Amber Benson (Tara) were regular cast members before they left the show. In the opening credits of Seeing Red, Amber Benson is credited (for the first and last time). She was technically only a regular cast member for 1 episode before she was killed, but still! :)

I know, I added the “or very nearly regular characters” part because a few people kicked up a fuss about whether Amber was a regular or not. Personally, I think she was.

She certainly was a regular, and not just because she was in the credits for an episode. Amber Benson was certainly one the most important characters on the show, even if she didn’t appear in every episode like the rest of the cast. Of course, I know that I’m biased, as Tara is by far my favorite character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Both Charisma Carpenter and Amber Benson were certainly regulars, even if they didn’t appear in every episode. They were both a part of the cast for three seasons. Though I was surprised the Cordelia never came home to Sunnydale, even for a visit. I mean where did her parents go anyway? Tara would have had a much more difficult time stopping by to say hello, being dead and all.

cordelia ditched her parents…she disowned them when she moved to l.a, its never properly stated other than her mom having a form of herpes..(welcome to the hellmouth) and her dad not paying his taxes (the prom) but aafterward it seams as though she’s in a dark place..i genuinely don’t believe that cordy got all that depressed and lonely just because of money…i bet her parents were awful, her mother was prob a slut..getting herpes in an affair and her dad probably paid her off so he didn’t have to spend any time with her. without the money, she had absolutely nothing from her parents and the irs took everything they’d ever given her so really they abandoned her…its what i believe..

What about Charisma’s appearance in You’re Welcome?
I thought that Charisma had left the show at the end of season 4 but then made an appearance in You’re Welcome to finally put some closure on the character when she dies.

In Welcome to the Hellmouth, Cordy says she thinks her mom has hepatitis, not herpes.
“Cordelia: My mom doesn’t even *get* out of bed anymore. And the doctor says it’s Epstein-Barr. I’m like, pleeease! It’s chronic hepatitis, or at least chronic fatigue syndrome. I mean, *nobody* cool has Epstein-Barr anymore.”
Chronic hepatitis isn’t caused by herpes (as acute hepatitis sometimes is), but can be caused by alcohol, or drugs, or even just immune system problems.

Thanks Mel, I’ve clarified that now!

But did Cordelia really mean anything when she mentioned those diseases ? Apart from the fact that they would have been “cooler” than what the doctor had really diagnosed ?
