Turok-Han

The Turok-Han are extremely strong, ancient vampires. The Scoobies named the Turok-Han ‘Ubervamp’ because of it’s extreme strength. Turok-Han were sired as vampires when the human was still a Neanderthal. In 7.10 Bring On The Night, Giles says it was known as the “vampire other vampires fear”. The First resurrected the Turok-Han using the Seal of Danthalzar and created an army of them to fight Buffy and the Potentials. Buffy discovers an ancient Slayer weapon she names a scythe which kills the Turok-Han with relative ease. The original Turok-Han was played by Camden Toy, who also played one of the Gentlemen and Gnarl.

I assumed the in ‘Bring on the Night’ when that mention is made by Giles, it means that the ubervamps are really old (and pretty stupid as well), and nothing else. It never occurred to me that they were meant to be neanderthals, but only that the line is to show how old (and again, stupid) they are.

Pop cultural reference is a good thing, plagiarism is not. And this is a rip-off from The Lord of the Rings right down to the name. Uruk-Hai, anyone? Tolkien’s

This is simply not plagiarism. Of course it seems to be based on that, but how is that anything other than a reference? Joss Whedon is not in any way trying to pass off this as solely his invention in this sense (it is his invention, however, because the ubervamp is not the same as the LOTR creature).

It does make sense saying the übervamps were sired when the human was still a Neanderthal.

Although, there also seems to be other theories on the subject that I lean towards to, as well. Took this from a BtVS Episode review site. The person who wrote this made the concept seem perfectly clear.

This little conversation about the nature of demons on Earth is a mixed blessing. On the one hand, it explains why there are demons on the Earth when the pilot clearly stated that they were all supposed to have left ages ago. There are some around, but they were apparently “tainted” or rendered less powerful by the process of coming back to Earth. Logically, the Hellmouth is one way for a pure demon to come into the world without some measure of hybridization. Hence the über-vamps being so strong.
