Tom Lenk played two characters in Buffy - Cyrus in 5.02 Real Me and Andrew Wells in seasons six and seven. A small piece of continuity for these two characters is that others find it hard to remember who they are. In 5.02 Real Me, when Harmony is talking to her minions about “the plan”, she can’t remember Cyrus’s name, and asks him what it is.
In 6.04 Flooded, Warren confuses Andrew with his brother Tucker (seen in 3.20 The Prom):
Warren: “Oh, or else what? You’ll train another pack of devil dogs to ruin my prom? Ha! Graduated!”
Andrew: “That wasn’t me! How many times do I have to say it? The prom thing was my lame-o brother, Tucker.”
Additionally, in 6.11 Gone, 6.12 Doublemeat Palace and 7.09 Never Leave Me, Buffy, Xander and Spike all say they have no idea who Andrew is.

Since Spike didn’t go to Sunnydale high and wasn’t there during the prom episode, how would he know who Tucker was anyway??

It seems out of place once Andrew becomes entrenched in the show in season seven, and yet it really does keep being humurous.

It’s also funny to note that in Grave when Willow’s talking to Buffy she says “You probably even think you’re buying escape time for Jonathan and the other one.” Obviously Andrew isn’t important enough to know his name!

In the scene that Tom and Alyson do together in How I Met Your Mother, they keep the joke going:
Alyson: Thanks Brian.
Tom: My name is Scott.
Alyson: Your tag says Brian.
Tom: Oh I know, funny story, so I wake up this morning and…
Alyson: Yeah, see ya later Brian.
