The Scourge are a military organization of pure-blood demons whose intention was to destroy all half-bloods. They attempted to kill a group of Lister demons using the Beacon, a hexagonal machine which disintegrates any creature with human blood within a quarter mile radius of it’s cleansing light. Doyle sacrificed himself to save the demons and destroyed the Beacon in 1.09 Hero.

These guys properly scare me, and I personally find Hero quite a difficult episode to watch. There are too many political and social parallels, with The Scourge and their victims reminding me of Hitler and the Jews’ persecution. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but that’s what I get from it!

Oh, they look, sound and talk like Nazis, there’s no doubt about that. Just look at Angel’s uniform and hairdo when he “joins” them. I think the show is rather heavy-handed here ; it usually manages to get the idea across without being that blatant.
