The Dedication was a ritual The Mayor performed one hundred days before his Ascension, in 3.14 Bad Girls. The Mayor says:
“The dedication is the final step before my Ascension. I have waited longer than you can imagine for this. After the Hundred Days, I’ll be on a higher plane and I’ll have no more need for… well, let’s just say I won’t be concerned with the little things.”
The Dedication involves the Mayor kneeling in an inverted pentagram with 5 candles burning at each point. He recites the words:
“Potestatem matris nostrae in tenebris invoco. Maledictum filium tuum abomni periculo custodias nunc et in saecula!” (Translation: Our mother of darkness, I summon thee. Curse now your evil accursed son and protect him into the new age!)
The ritual made him indestructible, proven when he survived when his head was sliced open with a sword.
