Buffy is saved in a similar way by Spike and Angel:
In 3.18 Earshot, when Buffy receives telepathic powers, she becomes overwhelmed, and would eventually become insane if not cured. Angel hunts down the telepathic demon to get it’s heart to make a concoction to cure Buffy.
In 6.17 Normal Again, Buffy is stung by a Glarghk Guhl Kashmas demon, causing her to hallucinate that she’s in a mental institute. Spike captures the demon to get the antidote, of which Willow makes “yummy antidote goodness”, Buffy drinks it, and she is cured.

But while Angel manages to feed her the anti-telepathy potion, Spike stomps off before getting her to drink the potion, and wackiness ensues.

Can you blame SPike after the attitude Buffy gave. Wow, that’s hard to say since I adore Buffy and SMG! *lol*

It’s true ; it just struck me for a guy who agonized for months over not being able to complete a task Buffy had set him, he’s remarkably swift to leave her to her own device this time. And once again it goes to prove that he’s not completely reformed yet.
And since I cannot find the right place to put this bit of trivia (and the Free Personal Theory that comes with it ;) ), here they are :
In the French version of the argument Spike tells Buffy “you could have been happy. I could have learnt to live in your world ; it would have been hard, but… or you could have come to live with me in the dark, etc.”
That wasn’t what I remembered from the original version, so I checked, and I was right. Spike never proposes to live in Buffy’s world. Now I think that the translator’s mistake clearly shows something about Spike and Buffy.
Okay, maybe Spike physically cannot live in Buffy’s world (although he manages to get around quite a lot) –but mostly he only wants Buffy to live in his world, and that’s one of the reasons why their relationship is completely wrong. (… until he comes to live in her basement in season 7… see my drift??)
