How lame is that?

How lame is that?

In 6.08 Tabula Rasa, Spike/Randy comes to the conclusion that he’s a noble vampire with a soul because he doesn’t feel the need to bite Buffy and he helps her to attack the other vampires. Buffy/Joan says “A vampire with a soul? How lame is that?” little knowing that her ex-boyfriend, Angel, is just that. Spike himself gets a proper soul at the end of season six.
When Spike decides that he is a “noble vampire”, he says “I help the hopeless”. Of course, “We help the helpless” is the motto of Angel Investigations in Buffy’s spin-off show Angel.

But when Angel forgets who he is and discovers that he’s a vampire in Spin the Bottle, does he help out and act nice? After all, he does have a soul. NO! He tries to eat the Fang Gang, starting with the girls. Really shows the difference between the two, doesn’t it? And why Spike is better, in my opinion.

EXACTLY, THANK YOU!!! That’s all part of my argument for thinking Spike is capable of being good without his soul, because when he loses his memory and finds out he’s a vampire, he assumes he is a hero of sorts, but when Angel loses his memory and finds out he is a vampire, he automatically tries to eat people. Tut tut.

I totally agree with you Wynter !

I am totally with you there, but let’s be fair : Spike wakes up surrounded by people who automatically assume they’re all family or friends, while Angel wakes up in a terrifying world , stuck with people who don’t sound too sane and who soon set on an anti-vampire crusade. How would Spike/Randy have reacted if he had discovered what he was before Buffy/Joan?
On the other hand, Angel was already eyeing Cordy’s throat before he even knew about vampires, so he’s clearly more of a vampire.
Besides, to be honest, I’ll always side with the Spike Club. At that stage of the story, Spike would have tried to do the right thing (the wrong way, infuriating everybody in the process and getting hit for some reason… but he would have tried).

Well to get on Angel’s side, I think his was a case of kill or be killed in the ep Spin the Bottle

In Spin The Bottle, Angel didnt try and hurt anyone until they tried to kill him.

Sure, he tried to hide who he was from them but only because he knew they would kill him.

Agreed, but after he made up his mind, he certainly seemed very enthusiastic about hunting and eating his companions ! There is no question that it was partly self-defence, but if you just watched Tabula Rasa and Spin the Bottle without knowing which one of the two vampires had a soul, you would probably go straight for Spike.
