The flower jasmine has been compared to vampires twice in the Buffyverse. In 2.19 I Only Have Eyes For You:
Drusilla: “Wow! Look. Jasmine.”
Angelus: “Night blooming.”
Drusilla: “Like us.”
And then in Angel’s 2.09 The Trial, Darla says of the jasmine in the courtyard at the Hyperion Hotel:
“Hmm, jasmine. It blooms at night. I remember what that was like.”
Season four’s entity Jasmine was named after the same plant looked at by Darla.

And then the whole Jasmine thing in Angel’s 4th season. Well, it doesn’t have to do with vampires and night blooming but there is definitly a reoccuring theme of jasmine in the Buffyverse.

The Jasmine arc in “Angel” was, in my opinion, Joss Whedon’s lowest point. It was dreadful. The man was phoning it in, at that point.

I agree.

Yes, but do you agree for the sake of agreeing..or simply to hold on to you much coveted and hotly contested Number One spot on the “Most Vocal” list?

I actually thoroughly enjoyed the whole Jasmine plot arc. I love the entire pace of s4 of Angel, how the action flows so well from episode to episode. Good times.

I liked the Jasmine arc too… I noticed right away that there had to be something wrong about her from her name and how it was always linked to the night and vampirism before in Buffy.
….also cause she was made out of a disgusting Connor/Cordelia soap opera sex fest.

…and the fact she was ‘born’ as a fully grown woman.

…and the fact that if she really was good there was no story left to tell !
I really hate the way season 4 keeps changing tracks, but the Jasmine arc is wonderfully original. How often does a Big Bad want to spread love and peace around the world, so that the heroes end up actually making the world miserable again ?!
