Angel: “Are you avoiding me, Merl? I ask you for a favour and you’re avoiding me. - That’s impolite.”
Merl: “Well, nearly drowning me and leaving me hanging in the sewer ain’t exactly Emily Post either.”

Emily Post was an author who wrote books on proper etiquette.

Angel: “You seen a girl tonight? - Maybe a little scared - beat-up?”
Officer: “Huh-uh. Nobody but our Mr. Bills. (Angel looks at him) You know (high pitched voice) ‘Oh no, Mr. Bill’ - krech!”
Angel turns away: “Right.”

This is a reference to the Saturday Night Live shorts, “The Mr. Bill Show”.

The first occurs in an exchange at a youth soccer game between teammates Deven and Shane after the latter drinks fruit punch, staining his lips red.

Deven: “Don’t even talk to me, weirdo.”
Shane: “Why? I was just trying to help.”
Deven: “I don’t need your help, lipstick.”
Shane: “Lipstick?”
Deven: “Your fruit punch lipstick. Fruit punch! It’s perfect. Fruit for the fruit. Or are you just pretending it’s blood? Because we all know how much you love the taste of blood. Is that it? Vampire!”
Shane: “Ok, I’m confused. Am I weirdo, lipstick, fruit punch, or vampire? You really need to pick an insulting nickname and stick to it.”

This may be a reference to 1.12 Prophecy Girl, in which Buffy informs the Master that he has “fruit punch mouth.”

The second reference occurs later in the episode after Shane and his older brother Silas discuss a television show called Bear Hunt with Silas‘ girlfriend Quinn.

Silas: “Think of the time this would save us on foreplay. You just whisper “shoot me in the optimum kill zone” and I’d be good to go.”
Quinn: “I could whisper linoleum and you’d be good to go.”

This may reference 2.14 Innocence, when Xander says to Cordelia:

“I’m seventeen. Looking at linoleum makes me wanna have sex.”

Spike: “Can’t we just… lock her away in a box where no one can ever touch her? You know? Like we did with Pavayne?”
Angel: “I don’t think she’d let us. Uh, she’s pretty strong.”

Spike is referring to Matthias Pavanye’s punishment in 5.04 Hell Bound.

Angel: “Sure it’ll hold him?”
Eve: “Permanent storage. If there’s anything Wolfram & Hart excels at, it’s keeping their unmentionables unmentioned.”
Angel (to Pavayne): “Congratulations. You get to live forever, unable to move, to touch, or to feel… or to affect anything in the world around you. But don’t worry—I had ‘em give you a window. Welcome to hell.”

“If you’re looking for fun, there’s death, there’s glory and sod all else, right?”

This could be a clue to the season finale, when the fight with Glory ends in Buffy’s death, and also that her death will be a happy time for Buffy, because she will be in heaven.

Angel: “Okay, now, I’m pissed. Where is he?”
Buffy indicates the floor to her left. Angel looks. Then she indicates the floor to her right. Angel looks, then back at her, impressed. Buffy smiles girlishly.
Buffy: “He had to split.”
She snorts with dorkish laughter. Angel just shakes his head reprovingly. She stops after a moment.
Buffy: “I’m sorry, I’m just… aaah… I haven’t had a good pun in a while.”
Angel: “That would still be the case.”
Buffy: “Hey! My kill, my wordplay.”
Angel (hands up): “I’m out of line.”
Buffy: “Well, I’m still glad you’re here.”

A few episodes later, in 5.13 Blood Ties, Willow teleports her several miles above the ground, and she barely has time to say “Oh, sh…” before gravity catches up with her.

“You ever have that dream where you’re in a play, and it’s the middle of the play and you really don’t know your lines, and you kinda don’t know the plot?”

This is precisely the dream she will make in 4.22 Restless, and similar to her nightmare in 1.10 Nightmares.
