In 6.08 Tabula Rasa, Buffy says, after an unexpected blow, “note to self, learn to duck”. She didn’t heed her own wisdom though - in 7.01 Lessons, when Buffy discovers crazy Spike, he says “Buffy, duck.” To which Buffy replies, “What? Duck? There’s a duck?” Then she gets hit by the flying dead janitor, thus concluding her ducking lesson.

The first time I heard the duck line, I actually thought Spike was saying it as a “term of endearment” like love, pet, etc etc. So it seemed kinda natural that Buffy misunderstood him, it made me laugh so much when she replied “What? Duck. There’s a duck?”
