When Dana was very young, her parents were killed and she was kidnapped and subjected to hours of torture by a man. The experience was so traumatic it caused a mental breakdown and she ended up in a mental asylum. There she stayed for a while, until she suddenly developed super human strength. She had been a potential Vampire Slayer and events created by Buffy and Willow had caused her to become a real Slayer. All the horrific Slayer memories contributed to her going mad. She broke out of her asylum and went on a hunting spree in 5.11 Damage, to find her parent’s killer and her torturer. Angel and Spike got knowledge of this and both tracked her down to try and help her. After she had removed Spike’s hands, Angel knocked her out with tranquilizer darts. He had planned to help and save her, but she was taken back to the Slayer camp by Andrew Wells, who revealed to Angel that he was no longer trusted.
