Cream

Cream

Giles and Joyce listened to Cream’s “Tales of Brave Ulysses” together in 3.06 Band Candy. In season five’s 5.17 Forever, the episode after Joyce’s death, we see Giles silently listening to this song again in a tribute to his dead friend, and the memories he had of her.

This scene broke my heart! As soon as I heard that song I started getting all teary eyed.

I love the fact that he’s listening to that song. It’s so cool that the writers thought of putting it in that episode.

I love how quick and subtle this is. If you haven’t seen “Band Candy” (are maybe if you haven’t seen it a ton like some of us), you wouldn’t have any clue about this. I really like that, as I do all alusions to the past, really, I just this one more than most.

I’m not sure if I ever noticed this but I feel as if I haven’t. With the weight of The Body and my affection for Giles I’m moved to the point of tears to think of this. I’ll probably connect that song with Joyce and Giles for ever.
    Thanks Jess

Poor Giles. All of his friends kept passing away. First Jenny, then Joyce. Everytime I hear that song (which is quite often actually), I always think of Giles and Joyce.

Me and a couple of my friends watched both ‘The Body’ and ‘Forever’ a couple of weeks ago. They’ve never really watched a whole lot of Buffy before, and when this scene came up they were all like: “What? Why the hell is he listening to that? That’s not a sad, funeral-like on topic song!” And then they were all going: “Oh my god what’s wrong?” cause I was sitting there practically crying. It’s a very sad moment. I really like non-verbal references to past episodes. They’re very smart and I think much more powerful.

I just watched Forever and this scene. Never noticed it before, but when I did it was a “pause, stop, think” moment. Good play

Great idea. Very sad. That’s all. It’s hard for me to talk about those epis because of my life’s actual happenings….

I went to rewatch the scene now that I know why he listens to that song, and it’s heartbreaking! Brilliant touch from the writers!

BtVS has always had good callbacks to previous episodes…This one is very clever, and extremly sad
