It was a necklace and Cordy was wearing it when she followed Buffy out of The Bronze to give Buffy unsolicited advice about the way she was treating her friends.

Chances are, Cordy was the only girl in Sunnydale who could afford designer jewelly, and probably made sure everyone knew it.

I totally agree with marvin21st and Angel242, it’s a girl thing. It’s especially true with ugly clothes or things we wish were ours.
