Getting to know you

The following scene, in which Cordelia had an even more difficult time easing into a conversation with Fred, was deleted from 3.03 That Old Gang Of Mine:
Cordelia: “You’re exactly the sort of girl who would have hated me in high school.”
Fred: “Oh, I’m sure that’s not true.”
Cordelia: “No, no, it is. I pretty much saw to it. I was a cheerleader, had power, popularity. You didn’t know me then.”
Fred: “No, I didn’t. I knew you when you were a princess.”
Cordelia: “Uh, right. Anyway…”

Merl
details | add a comment | suggested by Jess
Merl was a tongue-less parasite demon, whose snitchy services were often used by Angel Investigations, sometimes for money, sometimes using physical and verbal violence. He hung around mostly at Lorne’s karaoke bar, Caritas.
Merl was not evil, but his services were easily brought, making him untrustworthy. In 3.03 That Old Gang Of Mine, Merl was once again used for information by Angel, who hung him upside down. He demanded an apology from Angel, and when Angel went to visit him the next day to make up, he found Merl dead. Merl had been killed by Gunn’s old demon hunting gang, who had begun to unnecessarily kill peaceful demons.
Patsy Cline

Xander listens to country music (”the music of pain”) in 1.12 Prophecy Girl, after Buffy turns him down. His chosen track is Patsy Cline’s “I Fall to Pieces”. A season one episode of Angel was entitled 1.04 I Fall To Pieces after this song.
Fred sings Patsy Cline’s song “Crazy” at Caritas in 3.03 That Old Gang Of Mine (Cordelia: “I swear to God, she picked out the song herself”).
Transuding Furies
details | add a comment | suggested by Jess
The Transuding Furies were three ageless sisters hired by Lorne to place a Sanctorium spell at Caritas to prevent demon violence. When Cordelia went to them for help in 3.03 That Old Gang Of Mine, they suggested that they had known Angel intimately. The ageless sisters float a few feet above the ground and speak in unison. They were seen again in 3.07 Offspring, making Caritas safe again.
Wind Beneath My Wings
details | 4 comments | suggested by Jess
In 4.09 Something Blue, a mislaid spell by Willow magics Buffy and Spike into getting engaged. After the spell had been reversed, Spike revealed to Buffy’s friends that the Slayer wanted ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ played for their first dance. The overly sentimental song was sung by Bette Midler on the soundtrack to the 1988 film Beaches.
In the Angel episode 3.03 That Old Gang Of Mine, Gio sings ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ in Caritas.
Wrong way up
details | add a comment | suggested by Jess
The episode 3.03 That Old Gang Of Mine begins with Angel apologising to Merl for treating him badly. Merl says,
“What do I want? Huh? I tell you what I want. I want back the three months I spent in therapy after being hung upside down in a sewer. That’s what I want.”
He is referring to the episode 2.11 Redefinition, in which Angel hung him upside down for information.
Yarbnie demon

According to Wesley in 3.03 That Old Gang Of Mine, a Yarbnie is a balancing entity. They tend to nest in urban areas under roadways and are totally non-violent.
