Chantarelle/Lily/Anne

details | 18 comments | suggested by Jess

Chantarelle was a member of Ford’s vampire wannabe group in 2.07 Lie To Me. She later turned up again in L.A., this time calling herself Lily (in 3.01 Anne). There she met Buffy who politely informed her that Chantarelle was actually a mushroom. Later still, and using the name Anne (which she ‘borrowed’ from Buffy), she appeared in Angel, where she had become more confident and was running a shelter for the homeless.

The following is from 2.04 Untouched:

Cordelia: “Top of the middle of the day to you, too. And no, no leads worth mentioning. Of course we lost a little time during my 45 minutes of sleep. Good thing I left some clothes here, or you would be smelling me even now.”

Some of these clothes are lent to Bethany later in the episode.

In 2.12 Blood Money, Angel donates some of Cordelia’s clothes to Anne at the East Hills Teen Center. Cordy notices one of her shirts being worn in 2.14 The Thin Dead Line:

Cordy: “Hey! That’s my… Sorry. - I have a shirt just like that. (To Anne) The crook at the store said it was one of a kind! Big fibber!”

Cordelia was seen wearing this shirt in 2.10 Reunion. She confronts Angel about the donation in 2.17 Disharmony:

Cordy: “*And* you know, you didn’t just betray me, Angel. You didn’t just hurt me. You gave away my clothes.”
Angel: “To the needy.”
Cordy: “I am the needy!”

Angel originally took longer to discover the power source in 2.14 The Thin Dead Line:

Angel: “How are you controlling them? Is it the entrails? I don’t think so. Could you be controlling them with a sacred Manari candle? Nah. Red Herring. I know, maybe it’s the idol of Granath, the zombie God?”

In 2.12 Blood Money, Angel gives Anne a tape to play at the charity event. Anne, Lindsey, and Lilah believe this tape is evidence that Wolfram & Hart are pocketing money raised for the shelter. As it turns out, the tape is embarrassing footage of Wesley and Cordy.
Two episodes later in 2.14 The Thin Dead Line, Anne seeks Gunn for help with the renegade police officers. Anne is introduced to Wesley and Cordy, but doesn’t appear to recognize them, even after she mentions her altercation with Angel. That or she does not wish to embarrass them.

In 2.14 The Thin Dead Line, Rondell says:

“All right, look, all I’m saying is, you gotta let me get set up so they don’t see me with this [camcorder]. Cops see me with this and there’s no way we’re gonna Rodney King them.”

He’s referring to a shocking incident in 1991 in which an amateur cameraman video-taped four Los Angeles police officers arresting and beating an African-American named Rodney King. When they were exonerated, L. A. erupted in riots.

Rondell references The Jeffersons’ sitcom in 2.14 The Thin Dead Line:

George: “You’ve been moving on up, dog, - playing demon detective with your new family.”
Rondell: “Deluxe apartment in the sky.”

The show’s theme song goes as follows:

Well we’re movin’ on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin’ on up
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

Fish don’t fry in the kitchen;
Beans don’t burn on the grill.
Took a whole lotta tryin’
Just to get up that hill.
Now we’re up in the big leagues
Gettin’ our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it’s you and me baby
There ain’t nothin wrong with that.

Well we’re movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.
