The Angel episode 3.04 Carpe Noctem could be named after a goth magazine that ran in the 1990s. It was best known for Jhonen Vasquez’s Johnny the Homicidal Maniac comic. Carpe noctem is a pun on the Latin expression ‘carpe diem’ (”seize the day”) meaning “seize the night.”

I think it’s somewhat more likely that this episode is named after the expression than the magazine. After all, what’s the connection between the events of this episode and the magazine? There is none.
However, the old man who takes over Angel’s body certainly does relish his opportunity to “seize the night”.
