Carey Meyer

Carey Meyer was Buffy’s production designer from season two (the job was previously Steve Hardy’s, who left after season one). Carey’s job was to build all the sets, and he was responsible for many memorable places in Sunnydale including the Espresso Pump, the Magic Box and the Factory. Carey was the production designer for CSI, Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Abilene (which was visually referenced in 3.10 Amends).

Just wanted to mention that Carey Meyer also designed the set for Serenity (I’m referring to the ship, not the movie.) I just thought that someone here ought to give him some props for that awesome set.

I’ve always wanted to live in a tiny little commune-type place like that, where everone you know lives in the same building. If anyone wants to live in my spaceship, you let me know!

Yes, That sounds cool. I wonder if there is something about us that makes us attacted to living like that and enjoy BtVS… on second thought, maybe I don’t want to know the answer to that.

Sets like the ship provide good feel to any show, especially if the writing is as strong and the characters are as well-developed as was the case for Firefly/Serenity. That seems to be a major reason that the show was so great. The Hyperion on Angel is the same way, only not as much (since nothing can match the set of Serenity), in my opinion, at least.
