Big Bads

At the end of 7.01 Lessons, Spike is confronted by various manifestations in the form of previous big bads: The Master, Glory, Warren, Drusilla, Adam and the Mayor. The actors’ names were omitted from the guest stars list in the opening credits so as not to spoil the ending. Mark Metcalf (The Master), George Hertzberg (Adam), and Clare Kramer (Glory) were originally intended to return again by the end of the season, but they were unable to make their schedule work with the show. Harry Groener (The Mayor) filmed his segment three weeks after the other actors in that scene.

I really liked this bit in the episode. I was gobsmacked that they were all there. I loved it!

I thought this scene was wicked cool. I remember watching it the first time and getting shivers down my spine because it was so unexpected! Brilliant.

That scene was one of the most exciting moments of the series for me, as far as the first time seeing it. It was so unexpected and just awesome. The way that all six of them act so much in character is another great testiment to Joss Whedon, as this may not have been the case with any other writer.

How terrifying would that have been for Buffy, to come face to face with the Master again?? I mean, I know she ground his bones to make her bread (or not the bread part), but he’s the ONLY villain ever to have killed her. I think she would have been visibly rattled. And Glory just would have been funny. I wish it would have worked out! But if we have to ask for something, let it be Harry Groener. He’s fabulous. That’s enough for me. :)
I remember being so shocked and impressed that Joss got all those people to come back! What a lot of clout, just speaks to what a great guy he is.

Technically didn’t Warren kill her also? Didn’t she flatline at the hospital?

    Also, I loved this scene.

I didn’t like the Master, he just annoys me. I guess that the series needed time to introduce some other things first, but he was by far the most caricatural bad guy in Buffy.
I agree that the Mayor and Glory were the coolest Big Bads in the series. But Warren really is the most terrifying one, in my opinion, because unlike the others he’s human. He’s got a family, a girlfriend. He’s just your ordinary jerk, with petty motives and petty vices ; yet he manages to hurt the Scoobies more than any demon ever could.

Another thing, I know that Whedon couldn’t do anything about it, but I wish David Boreanaz had been available to shoot the final scene. Drusilla never was the bid bad of season 2 ; she was sick for most of it anyway !
