We discovered in 2.20 Go Fish that Sunnydale has a beach. That episode and the season five opener 5.01 Buffy Vs Dracula are the only episodes where the Scoobies were seen on the beach.

When does it state that the beach is located in Sunnydale?

It actually doesn’t, but there’s a beach sufficiently near enough to Sunnydale for the students to spend the evening there, and for the fish-monsters to escape out there.
