Aunt Arlene was Buffy’s aunt, and presumably Joyce’s sister. She lived in Illinois. Arlene was mentioned a couple of times but never seen on screen. In 3.19 Choices, Joyce called Arlene to tell her that Buffy was accepted to Northwestern University and in 4.08 Pangs, Joyce stayed with Arlene for Thanksgiving.

This is completely incorrect. In Choices, Joyce mentions her cousin Arlene (not Buffy’s aunt), while in this episode Buffy’s aunt Pauline is mentioned. They are not the same individual.

In Choices, Joyce DEFINITELY says Aunt Arlene. However, in Pangs, it could go either way, Aunt Darlene, or Aunt Arlene. She may have stressed the t too much in Aunt so it sounded like Darlene…or she may have said Darlene. And I have waaaaaaay too much time on my hands that I actually researched this.

Buffyworld.com & Buffy-vs-Angel.com both have it spelt as Arleen in Choices. They both have Darlene for Pangs.
Maybe they are two different Aunts. Twins, maybe! Like Charlene and Marlene in Spaceballs! *LOL*
