Anyanka’s origins

The exposition about Anyanka was changed in the episode 3.09 The Wish. Giles’s original story of her ran as follows:

“Anyanka raised a demon to ruin her unfaithful lover. The demon did her bidding - but then cursed her and turned her into a sort of patron saint for scorned women. Apparently the cry of a wronged woman is like a siren’s call to Anyanka.”

We now know that Giles’ version of the story is wrong.

In Selfless, we see it was Anya’s good job of turning Olaf into a troll that caught the attention of D’Hoffryn and that she then chose to become a vengeance demon.

I like that the writers revised the this idea. Anya as vengeance demon would lose its effect if she were a victim.

Also, it opens the door for D’Hoffryn’s proposal to Willow after Tara’s tragedy.

It was more interesting to have her be willing, but to be turned from human into demon might still class as a type of curse, though? Also, to turn Olaf into a troll is some powerful mojo - it would be a neat twist if it had only worked by her unknowingly summoning up the papa of vengeance himself, D’Hoffryn, allowing him to perform the transformation (transmogrification, in order to manipulate Anya’s unique aptitude for the long-term vengeance gig. OK, I realise that’s some rickety hypothesising.
