In 2.13 Surprise when Angel gives Buffy a Claddagh ring he tells her to wear it with the heart pointing inwards to show that you belong to somebody - like he is wearing his. If you look closely at Angelus’ hand in 2.19 I Only Have Eyes For You (when he is touching Buffy’s face in the music room when they are posessed by Grace and James) you can see that he has turned his ring back round with the heart pointing out. He obviously doesn’t belong to anyone anymore.

In 2.14 (Innocence), during Chapter 4, Angel lights a match on the table at the factory. As he lights his cigarette, you can see his ring, which already has the heart pointing out.

I was re-watching Innocence the other night and spotted this as I was trying to see just how quickly he turned the ring around.
He must have done it as soon as he went back to being Angelus.

It is quite surprising that Angelus is so keen on small details like this. Also consider the incredible pains he takes when he leaves “gag gifts” to the Scoobies. Chilling.
