Is that a “perfect moment of happiness” in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me? The vampire Angelus tortured and killed a gypsy girl, and was cursed by Kalderash gypsies. They restored his soul and gave him a conscience, so that he must live with the guilt of all he had done as a vampire. The curse would be broken if Angel had one second of “perfect happiness” (a big fat euphemism for sex). He and Buffy made love and his soul was stripped from him, causing him to kill again. Ironically, one of his victims was Jenny Calendar, a member of the Kalderash clan, in 2.17 Passion.

Hi Everyone!!!
Typical, you give a vampire a soul and it can be taken away with the clause “no perfect moment of happiness”
TRANSLATION: NO SEX!
Poor Angel… *cries*

You know, I always thought that the “perfect moment of happiness” clause was pretty silly. It could only happen during sex, and then only with Buffy? How about when Angel becomes a father after thinking he was sterile, like all other vampires? He seemed pretty darn happy when he was making those ‘goo-goo’ noises to Connor, didn’t he?

Indeedy. Especially given that the event of perfect happiness could be chemically induced, as seen in Angel.

I have always thought this as well. I mean, there are so many other events that can cause “perfect happiness” that to think it could only be sex that caused it was a little aggravating.

I believe that we were purposely led to believe it was the sex that ended the curse so that the plot could be successfully twisted later. Of course later in Angel we find out that sex is not necessarily

I’m right there with cardboardy and Abby M. The idea of carnal pleasure being the fulfillment of “perfect happiness” has always bugged me.
On the other hand, both series had gone on to reinforce the idea that Angel and Buffy were more than just a happenstance happy relationship (I will not use the ridiculous term, ’soulmates’).

Beagle, we all know Joss needed to use ‘his invention’ the “plot twist” ;)

I agree that equalling “perfect happiness” with sex is rather annoying, but don’t be too harsh… Maybe if Angel tried very hard, he could find other ways to be happy.
Concerning his happiness over Connor’s birth, I guess it wasn’t “perfect” since at that time half the world wanted the baby dead, Darla has just died tragically, Cordy was dating another guy.
Besides, Angel can have sex without activating the curse, even though it takes Wesley five years to point it out.
(Here I must add that Angel’s relationship with Nina is absolutely pathetic. “Hi honey ; I hope it wasn’t good for you ?”)
