The following dialogue is from the end of the Angel episode 2.08 Shroud Of Rahmon:
Wesley: “Angel drank human blood, from a living person. - Something he hasn’t done in a very long time.”
Cordy: “So, on top of everything else we may have reawakened his bloodlust?”
Wesley: “Yes.”
Angel last drank a human - Buffy Summers in fact - in the Buffy episode 3.22 Graduation Day (Part Two). This didn’t awaken his bloodlust, and certainly doesn’t constitute a “very long time”.

Perhaps Wesley didn’t know about the Angel/Buffy suckfest. He had been fired from the Watcher’s Council when it happened and Buffy tried to keep it hush-hush from even her friends.
Before that, we’re talking a little nip from Pete (whose blood was all screwy from the potion he had been taking) in “Beauty and the Beasts”, and then probably hundreds of long years without any humans in some sort of hell dimension.
Also, Wesley’s a ponce. We all know that.

Even though Wesley was fired he still hung around to try and help fight the Mayor.
And seeing that Angel was suddenly better, he must have known there was a reason for it, especially as he was the on that told Buffy that the Council wouldn’t help with the antidote to the poison.
Oh, and Wesley is not a ponce!

Eh, I wouldn’t necessarily call it a long time, but it did awaken his blood lust. In fact, it was mentioned/depicted a couple of times in the first episode of Angel. When he saves the girls in the teaser, he looks directly at the blood dripping down the one girl’s head and tells her to get away from him. Then when Doyle talked to him in the episode, he mentioned that Angel fed off of Buffy and that the craving was going to get deeper unless he started to “connect with the world.”
