   How’s this for a theory…
   It was a dream sequence, he hadn’t seen himself properly (certainly his back) in 100s of years and probably had the tattoo done donkeys’ years ago. I imagine he doesn’t think about it at all, like most people wouldn’t think about a birthmark or a mole on their back and therefore it wouldn’t appear in his dreams. Out of sight, out of mind.

   Or it could just be a goof.
