When Xander and Buffy go to a bench to sit down in 1.12 Prophecy Girl, Xander says to a guy on the bench, “move”. It seems very unlike him to do this, and for Buffy not to react to his uncharacteristic bossiness. It’s also weird that the guy moves - isn’t Xander supposed to be some kind of unpopular geek?

It’s a sign of the turbulence in Xander’s mind right then. People can do uncharacteristic things when they’re agitated enough. He’s so focused on this huge thing he’s about to do (has he ever asked a girl out? And this is Buffy!) that it doesn’t register that the other boy is a person.
I can’t think of why Buffy would go along with it, though.

Xander can pretty tough when he wants ; maybe the guy had come close to him during his Hyena phase. Beside, he sounds so determined when he says “move” that most people would probably just move without thinking, and then be too embarrassed to protest.

I enjoy Xander’s comments that he accidently makes that sound really bad.. I believe there’s an episode where they are questioning Andrew and Xander, Anya, and Buffy meet in a hallway and Xander says something along the lines “We’re pounding him hard..” and there’s a bit of silence, and Xander says “Maybe I should re-phrase that.” I love those kind of moments.. Spike has a couple as well.. I love this show..
